How to check SNI rebar in Indonesia comes down to three steps: make sure every bar is embossed with the SNI mark, brand and diameter; check the paint colour on the bar end, which shows the steel grade; then weigh or measure it. Plain-bar tolerance is on diameter (6 mm ±0.3; 8–14 mm ±0.4; 16–25 mm ±0.5). Deformed-bar tolerance is on weight per bar (6–8 mm ±7%; 10–14 mm ±6%; 16–29 mm ±5%; above 29 mm ±4%). Confirm figures against the current SNI 2052:2024.
- Plain bars: measure the diameter with a caliper at several points. A 10 mm plain bar must read 9.6–10.4 mm.
- Deformed bars: the ribs make diameter hard to measure, so weigh a full bar. A 12 m D10 should be at least about 6.96 kg (−6%), D13 about 11.75 kg and D16 about 17.99 kg (−5%).
- Length: SNI 2052:2017 sets lengths of 10 m and 12 m with a tolerance of 0 to +70 mm.
Step 4: ask for documents on projects
Only manufacturers (local or foreign) can hold an SNI certificate, which is valid for five years. For project purchases, ask the supplier for the SPPT SNI or product certificate and a mill test certificate. Mechanical properties such as yield strength can only be confirmed by a lab tensile test; SNI 2052:2017 requires BjTS 420B to have a yield strength of 420–545 MPa and a tensile strength of at least 525 MPa.
