Source: Bank Indonesia, Retail Sales Survey August 2026 (released 9 October 2026), read on 23 October 2026. IPR is on a 2010=100 base; September figures are BI forecasts. Data gaps: the make-up of the "other household equipment" group was not read, so it cannot be equated with electronics or building materials; the survey covers 10 cities and about 700 retailers (purposive sampling), not all of Indonesia; September figures are forecasts and may be revised; the release has no data on building-store sales, and the interpretation below is homeX analysis, not data.
What moved in August 2026: two groups up, five down
Year on year: parts and accessories +3.9% (index 141.5) and food, beverages and tobacco +2.6% (323.5) held up the total IPR; information and communication equipment fell 10.9% (63.6), other goods 7.8% (85.2), motor fuel 5.7% (110.6) and other household equipment 5.2% (83.0). Month on month: the total IPR +0.8%; BI names motor fuel (+3.8%) and food, beverages and tobacco (+1.7%) as supports, in line with demand around Independence Day. For the household group, the 2026 monthly index per the BI table: Mar 88.0, Apr 82.8, May 82.2, Jun 84.5, Jul 85.9, Aug 83.0; yoy growth Mar-Aug: -3.5%, 0.6%, -0.9%, 2.8%, -4.9%, -5.2%, i.e. four of six months negative.
September forecast and expectations to February 2027
BI forecasts the September 2026 IPR at 221.3 (+1.4% yoy) but down 2.3% mtm, mainly on food, beverages and tobacco (-3.2% mtm). Other household equipment is forecast up 2.9% mtm to an index of 85.4 (+1.0% yoy), and five of seven groups are forecast to grow year on year. The November 2026 Sales Expectation Index rose to 148.2 (from 143.9), while February 2027 fell to 143.8 (January 2027: 158.0). The General Price Expectation Index for November 2026 and February 2027 is 149.9 and 177.9, higher than the previous period (146.5 and 166.0), so BI reads inflation pressure as rising.
What it may mean for home-goods buyers (homeX analysis, not data)
homeX analysis, not data: a household-group index lower than a year earlier may mean weaker demand, but the release carries no prices or discounts, so it cannot be used to conclude that prices will fall. For specific product prices, see the dated Mitra10 and Depo Bangunan price tables in our articles on rice cookers, dispensers and vacuum cleaners.
