Gentengisasi 2026: 2.4 Million SNI Majalengka Roof Tiles at IDR 2,500

The gentengisasi (roof-tile replacement) programme of Indonesia's Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) is entering a large distribution phase: 2.4 million clay roof tiles from 45 makers in Majalengka are scheduled to be dispatched on 8 November 2026 for the Bedah Rumah home-renovation programme. Tiles bought through cooperatives cost IDR 2,500 per piece, and Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait insists quality must be secured through SNI certification or reliability tests. For the industry, it is an opportunity for small clay-tile makers and a strong push toward certification.
What is the gentengisasi movement?
At a coordination meeting on 13 October 2026, the minister promoted the Gentengisasi Movement in West, Central and East Java. Tiles made by local SMEs (UMKM) replace roofs under the Bedah Rumah programme. According to the ministry, the step follows President Prabowo's direction, also conveyed by Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, to strengthen local economies while improving people's homes.
Schedule and tile volume by province
- Plered, Purwakarta (West Java): 500,000 tiles (about 125 trucks) dispatched on 2 October 2026 from 14 makers; 4 SNI-certified and 10 that passed reliability tests.
- Majalengka (West Java): 2.4 million pieces, about 600 trucks, on 8 November 2026 at 15:00 WIB, from 45 makers: 34 SNI-certified and 11 that passed mechanical/reliability tests. Distribution is coordinated with Balai P3KP Jawa II.
- Central Java: 1 million reliability-certified pieces, scheduled for 4 December 2026 in Kebumen.
- East Java: 800,000 pieces from Trenggalek; schedule pending.
Programme tile price: IDR 2,500 per piece
Kompas.com reported that tiles for the West Java programme cost IDR 2,500 per piece through cooperatives; financing involves BRI and Bank Jabar. At that price the 2.4 million Majalengka tiles are worth about IDR 6 billion (homeX calculation). West Java regional secretary Herman Suryatman put the province's Bedah Rumah need at about 15 million tiles.
SNI roof tiles and reliability testing
On 18 October 2026 the minister again stressed the importance of keeping the programme's roofing materials up to standard. Since May 2026 the Ministry of Industry, through its BSKJI agency (as stated by Emmy Suryandari), has been accelerating roof-tile certification. Roof tiles are not yet a mandatory SNI product, but the housing ministry requires SNI tiles for housing programmes. About 200 small tile industries operate in Majalengka (Jatiwangi), Plered and Cirebon. The Ministry of Industry also noted that West Java built about 62,591 subsidised homes in 2025 and targets another 40,000 in 2026, needing about 45 million tiles.
Impact on the roofing market
Large government orders may absorb makers' capacity over the coming months. Contractors and building shops should order clay tiles early for year-end projects, check SNI labels or test results, and prepare alternatives such as metal or ceramic tiles if stock is tight.
Quick checks for clay roof tiles
- Ask the maker for SNI proof or a test report, especially for projects financed by the government or banks.
- Inspect the surface: good tiles are flat, free of cracks and warping, and uniform in colour within one batch.
- Tap gently; a clear ring usually indicates thorough firing, while a dull sound may signal hairline cracks.
- Make sure the hooks and overlaps between tiles fit well so rainwater does not seep through.
- Allow a reserve for breakage during delivery and installation, and match truck sizes to site access.
