Bathroom Waterproofing Flood Test: How Many Hours? Sika vs LATICRETE

卫生间防水闭水试验要多久?Sika 2 x 24 小时与 LATICRETE 24–72 小时对比

Bathroom waterproofing flood test is a step often skipped because the tiles are already ordered and the tiler is waiting. A leak found only after tiling means tearing everything out again. This article compares what three manufacturer documents say: the Sika Indonesia bathroom guide page, the November 2025 technical data sheet (TDS) of SikaTop-107 Seal ID, and LATICRETE TDS 169 on flood testing procedures (revised 30 July 2026). The durations differ between documents, and we mark what is not written down. Data as of 23 October 2026.

Source: the "Cara Aplikasi Waterproofing Kamar Mandi" guide page (Sika Indonesia), the SikaTop-107 Seal ID TDS November 2025 version 06.01, and LATICRETE TDS 169 "Flood Testing Procedures" revised 30 July 2026. Data gaps: (1) the Sika TDS has no flood-test hours, the 2 x 24 hours figure appears only on the guide page; (2) TDS 169 is a global document in inch units based on ASTM D5957, not an Indonesia-specific guide, and we did not check which LATICRETE products are sold in Indonesia; (3) we did not read any national standard or the ASTM text on flood testing; (4) other waterproofing types (bituminous membrane, polyurethane, epoxy) have their own TDS that we did not read. Data as of 23 October 2026.

How to read two different figures

homeX analysis, not a standard quotation: the Sika 2 x 24 hours falls inside the LATICRETE 24 to 72 hours, so they do not contradict each other. But they come from different manufacturers for different products, and only the Sika page talks about home bathrooms. If the contract or project specification already states test hours, follow that. If not, record the agreed duration and the waterproofing brand in the handover minutes and check it against that product manufacturer document.

Flood test sequence at home (two sources combined)

homeX calculation and ordering based on the documents above: (1) make sure the final coat is dry per the product TDS; (2) check pinholes, corners and pipe bases; (3) plug the floor drain without puncturing the membrane; (4) fill to 25–50 mm at the lowest point (TDS 169 allows up to 100 mm but the load rises) and mark the water level with a dated photo; (5) place a control pan; (6) check the ceiling or wall in the room below every 1–2 hours at the start; (7) drain and dry afterwards. Schedule so tiling does not pass the 7-day limit after the final coat in the SikaTop-107 TDS; that TDS does not say whether a flood test changes this limit (data gap).

Buyer tips

  • Ask the contractor to record test duration (hours) and water level in the handover minutes before tiling.
  • Photograph the water level with date and time at the start and end of the test.
  • Do not add water mid-test; TDS 169 says adding water invalidates the result.
  • Do not puncture the membrane when fitting plugs or temporary containment.

FAQ

How many hours should a bathroom waterproofing flood test last? The Sika Indonesia guide page says a soak test of at least 2 x 24 hours; LATICRETE TDS 169 says 24 to 72 hours from reaching maximum depth. The SikaTop-107 Seal ID TDS itself gives no test hours.

When is the flood test done? Before tiling and after the waterproofing has dried. The Sika page sequence: waterproofing, wait to dry, soak test with the drain plugged, then tile. TDS 169 also says to test before any material is installed over the membrane.

What if the flood test shows a leak? Sika: if seepage remains, apply the waterproofing coat again. LATICRETE: drain the water, find the source, repair per the manufacturer recommendations, then repeat the flood test.
