Figures come from the BPS release (1 October 2026), Kompas.com quoting BPS (1 October 2026), the National Economic Council Trade Brief and Bank Indonesia press releases (8 and 9 October 2026), and may be revised. The August percentage shares (72%, 19%, 9%) are homeX calculations from the dollar figures. August capital goods growth is written as 10.63% by Kompas and 10.6% by DEN; we use 10.6%. Data gaps: we did not read the import breakdown by HS code for cement, tile, steel or glass, so there is no building-material import figure; the BPS "raw/auxiliary materials" group covers all industries; none of these sources contains building-material price data.
Capital goods imports in August 2026 and manufacturing
The National Economic Council writes that growth in raw material imports (22.5%) and capital goods imports (10.6%) slowed from July, in line with domestic manufacturing being in the contraction zone in August, while consumer goods imports rose to 11.9%. For building-material buyers this shows the supply side of industrial inputs and machinery, not shop prices; DEN also notes that export volumes of iron and steel contracted.
What it means for building material buyers (homeX analysis, not data)
Rising raw material imports can mean factories are buying more inputs, but the data we read does not show what building-material factories use and contains no prices. Buyers should therefore keep comparing shop prices on the same date (see the IHPB and steel import articles below) and note that the BI survey shows higher price expectations for November 2026 and February 2027.
Buyer tips
- Use these import figures as macro context, not as a reason to buy early or wait.
- Compare building-material prices from two shops on the same date and keep screenshots.
- Check the next BPS release for revisions to August and for September data.
- Ask the supplier about price or availability changes before placing a large order.
