Indonesia Consumer Confidence September 2026 at 118.1: Building Materials

Indonesia consumer confidence September 2026 stayed optimistic: Bank Indonesia's (BI) Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) was 118.1, slightly below 118.5 in August (released 8 October 2026). The Durable Goods Purchase Index (IPDG) was 106.7. According to the 9 October 2026 release, retail sales September 2026 Indonesia is forecast to grow 1.4% year-on-year (yoy) to a level of 221.3, but fall 2.3% month on month. On prices, the building materials wholesale price index September 2026 (BPS) was 111.64, up 0.19% month on month and 9.63% yoy. Material prices are therefore rising much faster than retail sales, but the two indices are not equivalent and do not show building-material sales, which the releases do not publish. The part on what this means for shops and contractors is homeX analysis, not data.

BI figures come from the Consumer Survey press release (8 October 2026), the Retail Sales Survey press release (9 October 2026) and the September 2026 consumer survey report on the BI site; the wholesale price index is from BPS via databoks.katadata.co.id (1 October 2026). September 2026 retail sales are a forecast, not an outturn. Data gaps: CCI and IPR are national indices, not building-material sales; the link between them and building-material shops cannot be calculated from these releases; the BI residential property price survey for Q3 was not found in the sources we read; BPS September trade data is scheduled for 2 November 2026 (not re-checked); the price index comes from a databoks quote, not the BPS table directly. The CCI and IKE changes in the table are homeX calculations.
What it means for building-material spending (homeX analysis)
This is homeX analysis, not data. The IPDG of 106.7 is optimistic only for expenditure groups above Rp3.1 million, so intent to buy durable goods (including renovation or furniture) is concentrated in higher-spending households. Retail sales are forecast to grow 1.4% yoy while the building materials price index rose 9.63% yoy: material prices are rising much faster than the real sales index. Because the two indices are not equivalent, we do not infer building-material sales volumes; we only note that material cost pressure is high while retail sales growth is moderate.
Material prices in September 2026: what rose and fell
The IHPB by item (base 2023=100) shows the largest monthly rises for screws (+6.66%), sirtu (+3.92%), zinc sheet (+3.15%), sockets (+2.55%) and timber battens (+2.50%), while bricks fell 1.58% and bolts and nuts fell 4.26%. For retail prices of specific products use our price articles; a wholesale index is not the same as a shop price.
How contractors and homeowners can use this data
If renovation can wait, watch the next releases before locking in large prices; if not, ask for material quotes with a written price validity period. BI's general price expectations (IEH February 2027: 177.9) show consumers anticipating rising price pressure, but that is an expectations index, not a forecast of building-material prices.
Buyer tips
- Compare several sources: the CCI, IPR and IHPB measure different things.
- Ask for a written price validity period on material quotes.
- See our product price articles for current retail prices, not just indices.
- Watch next month's BI and BPS releases before a large purchase.
