BIM in Indonesian Construction and AI Gain Pace: INKINDO DKI–I2MI Deal

印尼BIM应用与建筑AI加速:雅加达咨询商协会签署BIM合作

BIM in Indonesian construction and AI adoption are gaining pace with the INKINDO DKI–I2MI agreement and BIM Coordinator certification exams.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is fast becoming a shared language in Indonesian construction. In the past two weeks, both a consultants' association and a university have moved to strengthen BIM skills, while government and technology providers are pushing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cost and quantity estimation. For the building materials supply chain, this means material needs can be calculated more accurately from the design stage.

INKINDO DKI Jakarta and I2MI sign an MoU

On 15 October 2026, INKINDO DKI Jakarta, the Jakarta chapter of Indonesia's national consultants' association, signed a memorandum of understanding with Perkumpulan Inovasi dan Informasi Model Indonesia (I2MI) at its office in South Jakarta. The MoU was signed by INKINDO DKI chair Afsdyah Eky Vitalina and I2MI chair Errika Ferdinata. The programme covers building members' BIM competence; education, training, seminars and workshops; BIM competence development and certification; BIM awareness and BIM maturity for member firms; and applying BIM across planning, design, construction, supervision, asset management and building operation.

INKINDO DKI says using BIM is now unavoidable, both because of regulation and technical demands. The benefits it lists include integrating architectural, structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design; clash detection before construction begins; fewer errors and less rework; and savings in cost and time. The key regulation it cites is PUPR Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2021 on Sustainable Construction Guidelines. The two sides agreed to follow up with training for BIM experts to obtain BIM work competency certificates (SKK BIM) at various levels.

BIM Coordinator Level 6 certification in Mataram

A day later, on 16 October 2026, the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Islam Al-Azhar (UNIZAR) in Mataram and the Region IV Construction Services Centre in Surabaya held a BIM Coordinator Level 6 certification exam. Thirty alumni of the faculty took part after four days of online training on 12–15 October 2026.

Ministry of Public Works: BIM must add real value

Government support is also visible. In a September 2026 release from the Directorate General of Construction Development, Disaintina Ari Nusanti, Director of Construction Safety and Sustainability, explained that BIM is part of the smart infrastructure principle in the Ministry of Public Works' 2025–2029 strategic plan. She said BIM must not just produce models but add real value in controlling quality, cost and time, from planning through to asset management.

AI for quantity takeoff

On the technology side, Glodon Indonesia introduced QuantifAI, an AI-powered 5D BIM quantity takeoff solution, at AEC Connect Day 2026 in Jakarta on 12 May 2026, an event attended by 554 participants from 302 companies. The AI x 5D BIM Master Challenge 2026 competition was opened at the same event. Komang Sri Hartini, head of the ministry's data and IT centre, stressed that infrastructure digitalisation is not an option but a necessity.

What it means for building material procurement

A well-built BIM model produces more accurate quantities, such as the area of gypsum ceilings, the length of hollow steel framing, the number of ceramic tiles or the amount of light steel roof truss needed. This data can feed straight into the bill of quantities and the material delivery schedule, so purchases match real needs, leftover material is reduced and deliveries to site can be staged in line with work progress.

Where homeX fits in

homeX, a one-stop building materials and furniture service platform in Indonesia, welcomes this digital shift. With a showroom, warehousing and delivery services in Tangerang, homeX is preparing to become an AI-supported building materials platform that can take material lists from contractors and organise staged deliveries to project sites.
