Construction Worker Safety Indonesia: Two Fatal Accidents and K3 Training

印尼建筑工人安全:10 月两起致命事故与免费建筑安全培训

Construction worker safety Indonesia is back in focus after two 35-year-old workers died in separate incidents on 20 and 21 October 2026: one was crushed by a wall while renovating a school in Sampang, and another was hit by glass sheets in Jimbaran, Bali. The key lesson is that demolition and heavy-material delivery need planning, not improvisation. Several local governments are now offering free construction K3 (occupational safety and health) training.

Two accidents in two days

Sampang, East Java. Kompas.com reported that a worker identified as F (35), from Camplong district, had been hired to repair the SDN Komis 1 primary school in Kedungdung district because the building had become fragile. On Wednesday 21 October 2026 he and three colleagues were taking down a wall to rebuild it, two working on the outside and two on the inside. The fragile wall suddenly collapsed and struck F on the head. He was taken to the Kedungdung community health centre, referred to hospital, and died on Thursday 22 October at about 13:45 WIB.

Jimbaran, Bali. According to JPNN Bali, a project labourer identified as SE (35) from Jember died instantly after being hit by eight thick glass sheets on Jalan Goa Gong, Jimbaran, South Kuta, on Tuesday 20 October at about 16:38 WITA. The delivery vehicle had left the company warehouse at about 12:30 WITA carrying 16 sheets: eight 10 mm and eight 6 mm thick. On a steep climb near Pura Goa Gong, the vehicle developed a technical problem because its clutch plate was worn out.

Construction worker safety Indonesia: practical lessons

The exact causes of both incidents are for the authorities to determine. For homeowners, site foremen and suppliers, however, construction K3 practice commonly recommends a few safe habits:

  • Before demolition: inspect the wall, take it down in stages from the top, and clear both sides when weak sections are brought down.
  • Personal protective equipment: helmets, safety boots and gloves should be on site, not only on big projects.
  • Glass and heavy-material delivery: check the vehicle before departure, use proper racks and straps, avoid steep routes where an alternative exists, and never stand beside the load while unloading.
  • Clear responsibility: assign one person to decide when risky work may start.

Construction K3: free training and certification

The government is also promoting a safety culture. On 6 October 2026, the Region III Jakarta Construction Services Centre held a hybrid workshop in Citeureup, Bogor, for regional construction-services offices in Jakarta, Banten and West Java, covering the Construction Safety Management System (SMKK), K4 standards and a zero-accident target.

In Belitung Timur, the regency's public works office is running free Construction K3 Officer Level 3 training for 30 participants. Registration runs from 12 to 31 October 2026 and training is scheduled for 3–5 November 2026. Participants receive personal protective equipment and a work competency certificate. Required documents include copies of the KTP identity card, family card, NPWP tax number, latest diploma, a passport photo, a CV and a work experience letter. The same office is also offering free 2026 construction competency certification tests for nine job positions, with the same registration period and tests on 9–11 November 2026.

For tukang (craftsmen), certificates like these can add value when offering services to contractors or government projects. For homeowners, choosing tukang who understand K3 means less risk in their own homes.
